Last week we loaded up 50 amazing animals to be sent to three rescues in Connecticut!
They were Sarge animals, some of which were long-term residents here at Sarge’s. Others were recently pulled from Haywood County Animal Shelter, Valley River Humane, ARF in Jackson County, Brother Wolf, and even the general public.
Some of these animals were slated to go to other rescues before Helene, but whose intake was shuttered in the wake of the hurricane.
Bissell Pet Foundation deserves the biggest shoutout here. They made this whole thing possible, organizing the transport, the destinations, even sending people from Forsyth Humane to help load the plane.
Dr. Danielle from Foggy Mountain went above and beyond prepping animals to go to CT. We owe them big time!
We were over capacity (really over capacity so much so that the kennel staff was here until like 7pm or 8pm with other folks pitching in. We were putting airline crates in every nook and cranny), so Dr. Danielle took a dog home to foster. Plus, they helped with some paperwork we needed to get situated FAST. Can’t say enough good things about them!
And another MASSIVE thank you to Valley River Humane. We pulled four dogs and three cats from them and they actually allowed us to use the van for transport.
We can’t forget about the huge shoutout to the ASPCA. They supplied a giant box truck specifically for animal transport and Martia, an incredible driver who helped more than she knows.
It was an absolutely WILD week and we are excited to hear all of the stories about these 50 pets finding their forever homes.
Thank you all volunteers, staff, and everyone who made this transport possible!!!
